Meet Neil Shannon, publican, crazy Irishman and serial fundraiser.
For the past five years, in the month of October and with the help of Neil Shannon, I have hosted a charity dinner supporting various breast cancer charities.
In addition to this, Neil has also, for five years, hosted his own a charity dinner, a Movember Dinner raising funds and awareness for the two biggest men’s health issues – prostate cancer and depression.
Every now and then, Neil and I have laughed about merging our charity dinners and call it The boobs and balls charity dinner – hmmm
Anyway, they are still both separate dinners, Neil’s Movember dinner is this Thursday 10th November at The Villager Hotel, 185 George Street Brisbane. Each year, Neil and his dodgey-moustache-clad-accomplices (Mo Bros) mark the occasion with some element of hilarity.
The highlight was the 2009 Movember dinner, when Neil agreed to run the length of Park Road in only a mankini. Yup, ONLY a mankini. I would like to have said that I sat comforting his lovely, and heavily pregnant wife Monika as she drowned her sorrows into her orange juice, but instead I grabbed my camera and made a home movie of it! Two years on it still makes me laugh – take a look here.
So become a Mo Bros and join a Mo Community near you, or if you live in beautiful Brisbane come along to Neil’s 5th annual Movember dinner which is sure to be lots of fun! There will be lots of prizes to be won via raffle and auction, with all funds raised going straight to Movember; bid on your chance for a private one-hour drumming lesson with legendary drummer Jon Coghill from Powderfinger and more…
