Today, Tuesday 13th December, the Milton Business community in Brisbane are rallying together to help two flood affected local boys.
Almost a whole year one from the devastation of the Queensland floods, there are still many families still struggling to rebuild their lives. Variety Queensland, the children’s charity have been working hard all year to raise money to support flood affected families throughout south-east Queensland.
The aim of today is to raise enough money to buy new bikes and helmets for young brothers in nearby suburb Toowong, who lost (among other things) their bikes in the January floods.
A whole day of activities have been planned at the Westpac Milton branch, kicking off with a breakfast BBQ from 7am, coffee, biscuits, cheese tasting, raffles throughout the day and community drinks from 5pm.
This is a heart-warming example of a community coming together, with many of the Milton businesses actually flooding themselves, including the Westpac branch, who are hosting the day’s events.
James Golden, Bank Manager of Westpac Milton says this is the least he can do. “I just wanted to mark the end of 2011 with something positive, and I invite all of the Milton Business Community to come down say hi, have a drink and support a very worthy local cause.”
You don’t have to be a Westpac customer to attend – all are welcome! All produce for the day has been donated by local businesses and local musician “Tuney” will be playing some of his best at the après work drinks from 5pm.
