Our Big Kitchen has one simple goal: to bring more goodness into the world. It is an industrial community kitchen located at The Yeshiva Centre in Flood Street in Bondi, Sydney, Australia. It was built purely by donations and runs solely on the kindness of the community; by way of donations of food, goods, services and most importantly, time given freely by volunteers.
Our Big Kitchen is all about bringing the community together – everyone has a stake in it, everyone can participate in it, and everyone can benefit from its facilities and outputs.
Our Big Kitchen is many things, including…
…a hub to help others. People from all walks of life come together to help prepare food for others who may be in crisis, homeless or simply in need of a helping hand. It is a place to experience the joy of receiving through giving.
…hosts work group cook-ins for moral-building and corporate events, providing a venuey for team building activities or social responsibility programs.
…has school holiday programs, providing a fun way to entertain the kids during the school break, with programs to keep the kids busy while teaching them about cooking and giving.
…hosts cooking therapy for people with disabilities. Participants are teamed according to their needs levels and their supervisors guide them with preparing, cooking and cleaning up.
…helps other not-for-profits and charities by providing catering facilities for fundraisers and events. All are welcome to come in to use the facilities for fundraising or to give to families in times of need.
…hosts kids’ birthday parties with a difference. Parties are designed to be a fun, easy (for the parents), exciting and a charitable experience for kids. Children have the option to donate a portion of their baking to a charity of their choice.
…helps local schools with community service curriculum by enabling students to come in to the kitchen and prepare food for charity.
…hosts cooking demonstrations to improve your culinary skills. Our Big Kitchen have contacts with Sydney’s top chefs and educators willing to give their time to the cause.
…host singles’ cooking evenings – surely a more fun alternative to online dating and a fantastic way for young and not-so-young like-minded singles to interact in a relaxed, fun environment.
