1. Sseko Designs – a not-just-for-profit where every sandal has a story
If you are interested in the effect of educating and empowering women in global communities, then you will LOVE the story behind Sseko \say-ko\ Designs. Sseko \say-ko\ Designs was created to help young women in Uganda continue their education. Many young women simply cannot afford education, Sseko Designs employ young women to live and work together, while earning money that will go directly towards their university education. These women will not make sandals forever, they will go on to be doctors, lawyers, politicians, writers and teachers that will bring change and unification to a country divided and ravished by a 22 year-long war.
Go to the Sseko Designs website here, follow on facebook and twitter.
2. Foundation 18 – beautiful things that support an orphanage
Foundation 18, Indonesia was established by Australian humanitarian and conservationist Cate Bolt in June 2010. You may have noticed TOMS is a bit of a favourite of mine, I have posted about TOMS before, and I have one pair of fire-engine red TOMS wedges that I wear with pride and another pair on the way. Basically, TOMS sells shoes and glasses, for every pair sold, they give another pair away to a child in need. Why not give Mum a TOMS gift voucher this mothers day and let her shop online to her hearts content? Shoes range in price from $50 – $100 and delivery to Australia is only $20.

5. Mummy’s Wish – helping mums with cancer
Mummy’s Wish is a charity dedicated to helping mums with cancer. Why not make a donation this Mothers Day helping a mum who is facing the fight of her life. Saturday 7th February 2009, now known as Black Saturday, saw the state of Victoria devastated by uncontrollable bushfires. Many towns were wiped from the map, thousands of buildings were lost and 173 people perished. Another great gift for the mum who ‘has it all’ buy mum a gift of micro-lending and buy her a KIVA gift card. KIVA have made gifting pretty easy; you can send your Kiva Card by email, snail mail, post it on mum’s Facebook wall or print and deliver it yourself.
