I would like to share a nice, feel-good story with you.  A few weeks ago, a friend of mine told me about an appeal happening in Australia to buy bras for women in a small village in Fiji who were devastated by the recent flooding.

As usual, my brain went into overdrive and I told my friend that of course I would love to help and that instead of buying our donated bras from a department store, that we should buy the bras from the Project Now shop (that I blogged about last year) then our dollars will help two-fold; firstly for the Fijian women receiving the bras, and secondly our bra money would go directly to helping build a 20-bed residential facilty for women in Red Hill Brisbane.

Hurrah!  What a great idea!  But it gets better than this.  My friend had been told to buy big bras, size 18 and larger.  So I contacted the lovely Michelle from Project Now and told her what we were doing, and she said she would happily accept our bra money as donations and offered to give us most of her larger sized bra to the women of Fiji!

Here is a picture of our kids helping sort the 87 bras we sent over – just so fabulous.  (extra fabulous as my friend and I were flooded in the Queensland Floods in January 2011, so it felt EXTRA good to be helping others affected in this way).

Which brings me to my next little mini-charity project, I am hosting a “Shopping Up Late for Project Now” night on Thursday 12th July at their Kelvin Grove shop, Brisbane.  All merchandise in the shop, including the bras have been donated, so 100% of your funds go directly to helping build a building – read my earlier blog post for more info. Shopping Up Late for Project Now is a drop-in event between 5:30pm and 9pm with items such as shoes, clothes, bras, books and jewellery on sale.  Entry is by way of a $10 donation to the cause (you can even have a tax deductible receipt for this).  There will be bubbles, snacks, prizes and other goodies on the night.

So please put Thursday 12th July in your diary and grab some girlfriends for a fun, feel-good uplate shopping night!  Hope to see you then!
