#bakedrelief and other ways you can help

It feels like half of Australia is either under water or on fire, it is often hard to know what to do to help.

An incredibly simple, yet highly effective way to help is to provide baked relief to support those affected.

Born out of the 2011 Queensland Floods, humanitarian Danielle Crismani took this simple concept to a whole new level, and mobilised literally thousands of people to bake or cook for those in need.  Again this January 2013, when much of Queensland was under water, Danielle kicked started #bakedrelief using social media to broadcast needs and channel baked goodies of kindness to flood affected people, SES depots, evacuation centres and more.  This movement of community kindness has grown bigger than Danielle and there are now hundreds, if not thousands of people baking for the relief effort.

If you would like to get involved, please visit the official Baked Relief facebook page here.

Other great practical ways to get involved is to register as an emergency volunteer at Volunteers Queensland, donate items via GIVIT or assemble a Shoe Box of Love.

I just heard about another one!  Adopt-a-wash on facebook who connect those flood-affected homes and businesses to people wanting to help with washing – check them out!
