Leisa Gill’s Card Making for a Cause is on again, Saturday 5th October 2013 at the Aspley Hornets Club in Brisbane – and you are invited!
The concept is simple; volunteers donate their time to make the cards, the cards produced are then donated to local charities / hospitals, who onsell them to buy things they need. Leisa leaves it up to the not-for-profit to decide how they spend the funds. Rumour has it that one hospital has raised enough through the sale of the cards to buy a blood machine and the CWA in Bangalow have donated funds raised to Care Flight. Several other charities including Mummy’s Wish, Childhood Cancer Support and Project Now have also been beneficiaries of Leisa’s cards over the years.
There is no need to bring anything other than yourself, hopefully some friends and $15. Leisa provides everything you will need; materials, tuition, coffee, morning tea it includes a $5 donation to a local cause or charity. Leisa caters for both creative and non-creative types, providing card packs, with an example of what you are supposed to make for people lacking inspiration.
Card Making for a Cause was started in memory of Leisa’s mum, Sascha, who sadly passed away in June 2010 with only 25 days between diagnosis and her death. Leisa and her mum were very close, and one thing they loved to do together was to make cards. Leisa dedicates every hand-crafted card in “Memory of Mum”.
Leisa and her hard working team of card-making worker bees have, to date created over 5500 cards for charities across the state. Which Leisa conservatively estimates has raised over $11,000. If you are a charity who could use some of Leisa’s cards as a fundraiser please get in touch with Leisa by email.
If you can’t attend in person and would still like to help, you can:
- Donate cards / envelopes / glue / other card making supplies to the day;
- Make a cash donation;
- Book in to donate blood, platelets, plasma today.
RSVP to Leisa and come along for a fun day of card making for a great cause!
