What is Chuck in ya Towel?
Chuck in ya Towel is a project between 139 Club, Brisbane’s ‘Soul Stylist’ Avra Velis and YOU to help raise 500+ clean towels for the homeless of Brisbane by March 31, 2016.
The OFFICIAL start date is March 1st but we are unofficially rolling and collecting towels right now, due to so much demand and enthusiasm. Thank you!
So why towels ? Because towels are a one stop shop for helping people rebuild their lives.
Here’s how: When people are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, they don’t have regular access to showers. This directly affects their ability to access work and safe housing. Showers not only maintain people’s health but also maintain their spirit and self esteem.
139 Club provides vital daily living support for the homeless, and part of these services are showers.
In excess of 120 towels per day are used. Add to this the washing turn around times plus a significant number of towels that are taken back out onto the street because people need them, and you can start to do the math and see why we want towels… because they really matter!
If you wanna make a real immediate difference and help put a smile on people’s faces and let our homeless communities know we care, then join us and share this initiative with all your friends in Brisbane and beyond! Who knows…. this may just evolve into something really big. It may even spread to other parts of Australia. It really is this simple.
So…… time to start raiding your linen cupboard, phoning friends, and filling bags with new or old clean towels and bring them to 139 Club, 505 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley Brisbane or drop off to one of our Chuck in ya Towel Laundry Basket drop off points.
Our list is growing daily. (If you want to offer your business as a drop off point, please message Avra Velis ASAP).
Please spare a kind thought: good size, reasonable quality towels are important. If it’s thread bare, torn, or so small a grown man couldn’t use it, then kindly remember the poor and homeless are human beings too.
For people who aren’t in Brisbane please consider making a donation no matter how small – homelessness is soul destroying. Please help us help 139 Club rebuild people’s lives.
We will also happily accept any reasonable and clean functional clothing you want to drop off.
Every drop of kindness helps become a limitless and practical ocean of compassion. WE CAN DO THIS! HELP SPREAD THE WORD!
